JP Theater Light Board Dedicated in Memory of Alumni Jason Brunsman

On Friday, April 26, 2024, John Paul the Great community gathered to dedicate a new theater lightboard in honor of Jason Brunsman, JP Class of 2022. Jason passed away in a car accident on Route 1 near Lorton, Virginia, in the early morning of February 14, 2024, while on his way home from a night shift at work. He was 19 years old. Jason was a dedicated drama technician during his time at John Paul. Fittingly, his younger brother, a current JP student, has taken over those duties and served as Lighting Operator during our Spring Musical, Joseph and Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which opened later that evening.

Our Chaplain, Father Christopher Tipton, presided over the dedication ceremony. The Brunsman family and friends were in attendance, as were members of the John Paul faculty, staff, and the Joseph cast. Father Tipton spoke briefly and then dedicated the lightboard while the community looked on and prayed together. Father Tipton and Assistant Principal Sr. Ann Dominic hosted a small reception for the family and friends after the dedication, and all stayed for the musical’s opening night performance.

We want to thank those who made this new lightboard possible, including our generous John Paul families, Fine Arts supporters, and all those who love Jason. It is a beautiful testimony to the strength of the John Paul community to see people come together to support each other.
